Louisiana Crash Claims the Life of Unrestrained Texas 14-Month-Old and Critically Injures Two Other Children
Louisiana – Louisiana State Police stated on November 14, 2022, that on November 11, 2022, just before 6:00 p.m., LSP Troop I was alerted of a single-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 338, east of Adier Road in Vermilion Parish. 14-month-old Dior Cormier of Katy, Texas, was killed in the crash.
According to early findings, a 2016 Kia Optima driven by 27-year-old Jhori Danielle Peters of Abbeville, Louisiana was going west on LA 338. Peters crossed the center line and went off the left side of the road for unknown reasons. After leaving the road, the Kia entered a ditch and collided with a steel culvert before flipping over onto its roof.
Cormier was sitting on the lap of the front seat passenger at the time of the incident. She was sent to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries. Troop I was alerted on November 14, 2022, that Cormier had died as a result of her injuries.
Peters and the adult passenger in the front seat were both properly restrained and suffered minor injuries. Two other juvenile passengers in the back seat were unrestrained and were taken to a nearby hospital with significant injuries.
Peters provided a toxicological sample, which was then sent for analysis. On the evening of the incident, she was cited for careless driving, no driver’s license, and two counts of child restraint infractions, and additional charges are pending. This crash is still being investigated.
