East Carroll Parish, Louisiana – In the early hours of Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop F initiated an investigation into a deadly collision on US 65 close to LA 580. The crash resulted in the tragic death of Jamaar Scott, a 33-year-old resident of Lake Providence, Louisiana.

In the initial investigation, it was found that a 2008 GMC Yukon, being driven by Scott, was heading north on US 65. The vehicle hit a deer on the road and then swerved to the left, causing it to overturn.

Scott, who was not wearing a seatbelt according to police, sustained severe injuries and was declared dead at the crash site. Louisiana State Police indicated that it is believed that impairment and excessive speed played a role in the collision. Blood samples were taken for testing and the incident is still being looked into.

Troopers want to emphasize to drivers the importance of making responsible choices when behind the wheel. Avoid driving under the influence, when tired or distracted, and always obey traffic regulations. Furthermore, make sure all passengers are wearing seat belts. While accidents may not always be avoidable, implementing these simple safety measures could greatly increase the chances of survival in a crash.

In the year 2024, Troop F has looked into 13 deadly crashes that led to a total of 14 fatalities.
