Tropical Cyclone 2 Formation Chance Increased to near 100% Cameron and Vermillion Parishes Placed Under Hurricane Watch
At 2:00 P.M. July 10, 2019, the National Weather Service in Lake Charles issued the following statement:
“The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Potential
Tropical Cyclone Two, located over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico
less than 200 miles east-southeast of the mouth of the Mississippi
River.
Formation chance through 48 hours…high…near 100 percent.
Formation chance through 5 days…high…near 100 percent.”
Cameron and Vermillion Parishes in Southwest Louisiana, as well as the coast of Louisiana eastward, have been placed under a hurricane watch.
The prediction is that the potential tropical system could increase to hurricane strength before making landfall. This storm will likely bring heavy rain and a damaging storm surge as it travels across the Gulf Coast.
Calcasieu Parish schools have been canceled Friday, July 12, 2019, in preparation for the possible storm.
Some parts of Southeast Louisiana are already experiencing flooding.
Governor John Bel Edwards has already issued a state of emergency for the state of Louisiana prior to the storm.
