Louisiana Woman Arrested in Connection with Brawl at Gas Station that Led to a Shooting, Other Suspects Wanted

Update: A second suspect was arrested on November 21, 2022, in connection with this case.

Louisiana – Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre said on November 17, 2022, that investigators arrested Raneshia Pointer, 21, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in connection with a gunshot incident in Prairieville, Louisiana that injured one person.

According to authorities, Raneshia Pointer is charged with principal to attempted second-degree murder, principal to illegal use of weapons, two counts of principal to aggravated damage to property, simple battery, disturbing the peace, and child desertion. Detectives have also received an arrest warrant for Rhesa Pointer, 40 of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She will be charged with attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, two counts of aggravated damage to property, simple battery, disturbing the peace, and child desertion.

Deputies responded to a shooting at a gas station on Highway 73 near I-10 on Tuesday, November 15. When deputies arrived, they reported that there was no shooter or victim on the scene. Detectives later discovered that one female victim was hit by gunshots during their inquiry. She was treated at a nearby hospital and is likely to recover fully.

Detectives discovered throughout their investigation that Rhesa Pointer and her daughter Raneshia Pointer went to the gas station with the intention of fighting a separate group of women. Rhesa Pointer fired a firearm during their brawl, striking the victim many times. Raneshia Pointer surrendered after investigators obtained an arrest warrant for her. Rhesa Pointer is still sought after.

This is an ongoing investigation, and additional arrests are possible.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
