Louisiana State Police Trooper Working I-210 Safety Detail Sideswiped by Impaired Driver
Published November 5, 2019
A Louisiana State Trooper working a traffic safety detail on I-210 was sideswiped by an impaired driver during the early morning hours of November 5, 2019. A similar incident on I-210 involving another Louisiana Trooper working a traffic safety detail and an impaired driver also occurred earlier in 2019.
Louisiana State Police released the following information regarding the two incidents on I-210 and work zone safety
From Louisiana State Police – As the population of Louisiana continues to grow, we must continue to improve and expand our highway infrastructure. Work zones are becoming more common for motorists who travel across and within the state. We must not view work zones as an inconvenience, but as a necessity to be able to keep up with the rapid growth.
Work zones can be very dangerous for construction workers, officers who enforce them, and also for the many motorists who travel through them.
Earlier this year, a fully marked state police Chevrolet Tahoe was rear-ended while parked on the shoulder on Interstate 210 by an impaired driver while the Trooper was working a traffic safety detail. The latest crash happened after midnight on November 5, 2019, on Interstate 210. The Trooper was working a traffic safety detail when his fully marked Dodge Charger was sideswiped by an impaired driver who disregarded traffic signs and drove around a barricade. Both Troopers suffered minor injuries as a result of those crashes.
Here are a few things that the public can do to ensure safety in the work zones. Don’t drive impaired, avoid all distractions in and outside of your vehicle, buckle up, slow down, and pay attention to detours and other construction signage. Our commitment and dedication to the citizens and motorists of Louisiana will not change. We’ll remain dedicated to educating the public on highway safety.
