Galliano, Louisiana – On January 20, 2025, at approximately 2:00 a.m., Louisiana State Police Troop C commenced an investigation into a fatal incident involving a pedestrian on Louisiana Highway 3235, near Filton Lane. The crash resulted in the death of 61-year-old Lisa Cheramie, a resident of Cut Off, Louisiana.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a 2017 Peterbilt 18-wheeler was traveling southbound in the left lane of LA Hwy 3235. At the same time, Cheramie was reportedly walking in the same lane. For reasons that remain unclear and are still being examined, the Peterbilt struck Cheramie.

Emergency responders pronounced Cheramie dead at the scene due to the injuries she sustained from the incident. The driver of the Peterbilt was unharmed and has cooperated fully with the investigation. Authorities noted that there was no suspicion of impairment; the driver voluntarily provided a breath sample that indicated no alcohol consumption. Additionally, a standard toxicology sample has been collected from Cheramie and is pending analysis.

Authorities urge both pedestrians and motorists to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings to help prevent similar incidents in the future. Basic safety tips for pedestrians include wearing light-colored or reflective clothing, particularly in low-light conditions, and choosing well-lit areas for crossing streets. It is also advised that pedestrians walk against oncoming traffic to enhance visibility.
