Ouachita Parish, Louisiana - On the evening of Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at around 7 pm, Louisiana State Police Troop F initiated an inquiry into a fatal single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on LA-617 (Thomas Road) near Railroad Avenue in Ouachita Parish. The incident resulted in the tragic passing of Gerardo Sanchez-Reyna, aged 56, of West Monroe, Louisiana.

According to the initial findings, a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading south on LA-617 when it collided with Sanchez-Reyna as he was crossing from east to west. After being rushed to the hospital with severe injuries, Sanchez-Reyna unfortunately did not recover. The driver of the Jeep sustained minor injuries.

Louisiana State Police indicated that Sanchez-Reyna is suspected of impairment based on evidence gathered from the investigation. Samples for routine toxicology analysis have been collected and will be submitted. The crash is still being investigated.

LSP said that it is crucial for pedestrians to prioritize safety when walking near or across roads. This includes walking against traffic flow and wearing highly visible clothing or reflective gear when moving about at night.
