The roadway remained closed for approximately four hours while CPSO Forensic Investigative Unit deputies collected evidence at the scene. Initial reports did not immediately reveal Lewis's name, occupation, or the circumstances surrounding her death.
Through multiple tips from the community, detectives learned Lewis had been working as a Lyft driver that day. Investigators quickly determined her vehicle was missing from the scene, prompting CPSO to issue a BOLO (Be On The Lookout) alert for the stolen car.
Later that evening, the vehicle was spotted in a parking lot in the Houston area. Harris County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to the location and attempted to make contact with two individuals inside the car.
Both suspects fled on foot when HCSO approached. Ethan I. Bush, 23, of Boyce, Louisiana, was struck by traffic in the roadway during the pursuit and was later pronounced dead. The second suspect, Tristan A. Bush, 26, of Lafayette, Louisiana, was apprehended by HCSO deputies.
Evidence linking both suspects to the homicide was recovered with assistance from Harris County authorities, according to CPSO.
Tristan Bush remains in Harris County custody awaiting extradition to Calcasieu Parish. He has been charged with second-degree murder, and Judge Bobby Holmes set his bond at $2.5 million.
CPSO indicated the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely as detectives continue to examine evidence and piece together the events leading to Lewis's death.
All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
