Louisiana Inmate Arrested for Allegedly Bringing Methamphetamine Into Detention Center After Working on a Litter Crew

Sabine Parish, Louisiana – On November 16, 2022, Sheriff Aaron Mitchell of the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of an inmate for allegedly bringing narcotics into the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

Austin Ray Cooley, 29, of Leesville, Louisiana, was imprisoned and assigned to the convict litter crew. Deputies recovered approximately 1 ounce of suspected methamphetamine in a cup Cooley was carrying during a search of the convicts upon his return to the jail.

Cooley was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule II (Meth) and Contraband into Penal Institutions Prohibited. The 11th Judicial District Court has not yet set a bond.

Sheriff Mitchell and Chief Deputy Brad Walker applaud the jailers for their ongoing efforts to keep illegal narcotics and other contraband out of the Sabine Parish Detention Center.

Sheriff Mitchell stated that increased security measures such as extra cameras, a perimeter fence, and properly searching detainees had been a primary priority of this administration.

A person is innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
