Schriever, Louisiana – Louisiana State Police are investigating a two-vehicle crash that killed a Schriever man Thursday afternoon on Louisiana Highway 20.

Troop C reported that the fatal incident happened shortly after 3 p.m. on January 22, 2026, at the intersection of Louisiana Highway 20 and Back Project Road. The crash involved a 2010 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and a 2007 Chevrolet Impala.

According to preliminary findings from Louisiana State Police, 59-year-old Troy Polkey of Schriever was riding the Harley-Davidson west on LA 20. At the same time, the Chevrolet Impala was traveling north on Back Project Road and had stopped at a stop sign at the intersection.

For reasons still under investigation, troopers say the driver of the Impala failed to yield to approaching traffic while attempting to cross Highway 20. The Impala entered the roadway and struck Polkey’s motorcycle.

Polkey was wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash. Despite using proper protective gear, he suffered serious injuries. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital, where he later died.

State Police said the driver of the Impala was not properly restrained but reported no injuries.

As part of the standard procedure in fatal traffic crashes, a toxicology sample was collected from Polkey and sent to a lab for analysis. Investigators determined that the Impala’s driver was not impaired. The driver voluntarily provided a breath sample, and testing showed no alcohol detected.

Troop C stated that the incident remains under active investigation. No additional details, including possible citations or charges, have been released as of the latest information provided.

Louisiana State Police routinely emphasize that drivers approaching intersections must obey traffic signs, yield to oncoming vehicles when required, and make sure the roadway is clear before crossing. Safety officials also continue to promote helmet use for motorcyclists, even though not every severe injury can be prevented.

Authorities have not released further information about the Impala driver or any additional contributing factors.
