Westlake, Louisiana – The Westlake Police Department reports that two 15-year-old juveniles have been arrested in connection with a recent series of vehicle burglaries in the city, and officers recovered two firearms during the investigation, including one that had been reported stolen.
According to a community alert released by the department, officers have responded to “several reports” of vehicles being broken into over the past two weeks, with multiple items reported stolen. Authorities say the ongoing investigation has already led to two arrests, and more arrests and additional charges are expected.
Search Warrant Leads To Firearm Seizure
As part of the burglary investigation, Westlake officers executed a search warrant at a residence linked to the case. During that search, investigators recovered two firearms. One of the guns was confirmed to be stolen.
Police are now asking residents to check their homes and firearm storage areas. The department is urging anyone who believes they may be missing a firearm to contact law enforcement as soon as possible so detectives can determine whether it is connected to this case.
Juveniles Booked Into Juvenile Detention Center
Westlake Police stated that two 15-year-old juveniles were arrested and booked into the Juvenile Detention Center. Officials did not release specific charges but indicated that more charges are expected as the investigation continues.
The case is being led by Detective Sgt. Wright, with assistance from Detective Sgt. Stringer, Senior Corporal Dennis, Senior Corporal Lewis, Officer Piper, Officer Henry, Officer Chandler, Officer Schnake, and Officer Bourque. The department has not yet released a detailed timeline of the incidents or the number of vehicles involved.
Police Emphasize Vehicle Security
In their public message, Westlake Police used the recent incidents to remind residents about basic crime prevention steps. Officers are asking vehicle owners to lock their doors and remove valuables from inside their cars and trucks, especially overnight.
Items commonly targeted in vehicle burglaries can include electronics, wallets, purses, firearms, and loose cash. Police often refer to these crimes as “crimes of opportunity,” meaning suspects tend to choose vehicles that are unlocked or that have visible valuables inside.
