Belle Chasse, Louisiana – A devastating single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian claimed the life of a 19-year-old Baton Rouge, Louisiana resident, Kyrin Dotson, early this morning on LA 23 in Plaquemines Parish. The incident occurred just north of Seatrain Road, according to Louisiana State Police Troop B.

Preliminary investigations revealed that a 2004 Toyota Tundra was traveling northbound on LA 23 in the left lane when it struck Dotson, who was walking east across the northbound lanes of travel. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the driver of the Toyota was restrained and uninjured.

As part of the ongoing investigation, toxicology samples were obtained from both the pedestrian and the driver for analysis. The crash remains under investigation, and authorities urge pedestrians and motorists to exercise extreme caution on roadways.

Pedestrian safety on roadways is a concern, especially at night. To avoid such tragic incidents, pedestrians should wear light-colored or reflective clothing, avoid walking on roadways in dark areas, and assume that approaching motorists cannot see them.
