Lake Charles, Louisiana – The City of Lake Charles has announced a road closure affecting commuters and residents in the area. Starting today, August 26, 2024, Lakeshore Drive, between Broad and Mill Streets, is closed to vehicular traffic.

The purpose of this closure is to facilitate the staging of equipment by contractors involved in the demolition of the Hertz Tower (former Capital One Tower). This necessary step will enable the safe and efficient removal of the structure. Weather permitting, the closure is expected to last until 5 p.m. on Friday, August 30, 2024.

Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes to avoid inconvenience and potential delays. The city recommends using adjacent streets to navigate around the closed area. Local businesses and residents are encouraged to make necessary arrangements to accommodate the temporary closure.

The Hertz Tower demolition project is a significant undertaking, and the city is working closely with contractors to ensure a smooth and safe process. The closure of Lakeshore Drive is a crucial step in this process, allowing for the necessary equipment and personnel to be staged in the area.
