Lake Charles, Louisiana – The Lake Charles Police Department arrested a 45-year-old suspect Thursday afternoon in connection with a shooting that left a female family member hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
Shermane A. Bartie, 45 of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was taken into custody Sept. 19, 2025, at approximately 1:06 p.m. in the 100 block of North Kirkman Street without incident. Bartie faces charges of attempted second-degree murder in connection with the Wednesday night shooting.
Initial Response and Medical Care
Police responded to the 2400 block of Anita Drive at approximately 10:44 p.m. Sept. 18 following reports of a shooting. Officers discovered a female victim inside the residence with a single gunshot wound that created both entry and exit wounds.
Cpl. Paul Torres, the initial responding officer, immediately applied seals to both wounds to prevent additional blood loss before the victim was transported to a local hospital.
Victim Identification Leads to Arrest Warrant
Before being transported for medical treatment, the victim identified Bartie as the suspect and indicated that Bartie was a family member. This identification proved crucial in the investigation’s rapid progression.
Lake Charles Police Department detectives secured an arrest warrant for Bartie within 24 hours of the incident. Judge Tony Fazzio signed the warrant and set bond at $300,000 for the attempted second-degree murder charge.
