Louisiana State Police Update on Lake Charles Police Department Officer Involved in Early Morning Shooting on January 11, 2019

From Louisiana State Police: Early this morning [January 11, 2019], an officer from the Lake Charles Police Department was involved in a shooting near the intersection of Martin Luther King Highway and Pineview Street in Lake Charles.

The preliminary investigation revealed an officer with the Lake Charles Police Department responded to the Raceway gas station on Martin Luther King Highway after receiving a complaint about a subject threatening someone with a gun. The officer located the subject about a block away and at some point during the encounter discharged his weapon striking the subject, later identified as 26-year-old Juston Joseph Landry of Lake Charles. Landry collapsed in a nearby parking lot and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.

The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations responded to the scene at the request of Lake Charles Police Department to investigate the incident/shooting.

The investigation remains active and is ongoing. No further information is available at this time.
