Lake Charles, Louisiana – The City of Lake Charles is taking proactive measures to prepare for an anticipated heavy rain event in the coming days. City crews have been deployed to ensure that the drainage systems are ready to handle the potential downpour.
Streets and Drainage Crews have been diligently inspecting drainage catch basins and surface drains for any obstructions that could impede the flow of water. Leaves and other yard debris are being cleared to ensure smooth drainage and prevent any potential flooding.
To further assist in the preparation efforts, residents are urged to secure any loose items in their yards.
In addition, residents are reminded to bring in their cans from the curb, unless it is their designated trash/garbage collection day. Securing the cans will prevent them from being swept away by heavy winds, and water, or causing obstruction in the streets.
The City of Lake Charles is also encouraging residents to assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the storm drains. If anyone notices leaves or debris piled on top of or in front of a storm drain and can safely remove it, they are encouraged to do so. However, if the debris is too heavy or poses any risk, residents are advised to call (337) 491-1220 to report the location for immediate assistance.
In coordination with the City’s efforts, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has announced sandbag locations for the area. This will provide residents with an additional means to protect their properties from potential flooding.
As the City of Lake Charles continues to monitor the weather forecast, these preemptive actions aim to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents. By working together and taking necessary precautions, the community can mitigate the impact of the heavy rain event and minimize any potential damage.
