Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – In preparation for potential flooding and severe weather conditions, the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has announced that they are offering sand and bags free of charge to residents at various locations throughout the parish. This initiative aims to assist residents in safeguarding their properties and minimizing potential damage.
Residents can find sandbag locations at the following addresses:
- Former Old Tyme Variety Store location – 810 Ruth St., Sulphur, Louisiana
- Public Works East – 5500-B Swift Plant Road, Lake Charles, Louisiana (access through back gates located on James Sudduth Parkway)
- Ward 1 Barn – 461 Parish Road, Moss Bluff, Louisiana
- Ward 2 Barn – 7085 LA 14 East, Hayes, Louisiana
- Ward 3 Old Barn – 2302 Smith Road, Lake Charles, Louisiana
- Ward 5 Barn – 129 Third St., Starks, Louisiana
- Ward 6 Barn – 1275 Plum St., DeQuincy, Louisiana
- Ward 8 Barn – 1726 Parish Barn Road, Iowa, Louisiana
While sand and bags are provided, it is important to note that residents must bring their own shovels and fill the bags themselves. Additionally, no outside equipment other than shovels will be allowed on the sandbagging sites.
To ensure that everyone has access to the resources, residents are requested to limit their sandbag collection to 15 bags per person if there are long lines. However, individuals are permitted to return to the line for multiple trips if needed.
The parish staff will be present at each location to maintain safety operations and ensure a steady supply of sand and bags.
