Juvenile Suspect Arrested in Connection with October 9 Shooting Death in Louisiana

LaPlace, Louisiana – The St John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office confirmed on Friday, October 14, 2022, that a 15-year-old male juvenile from LaPlace, Louisiana, was arrested in connection with the shooting death of Yasmine Halum, 19, of LaPlace.

According to authorities, deputies responded to a complaint about gunshots heard in the 1400 block of Van Arpel Drive in LaPlace, Louisiana, around 3 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2022. Officers arrived to find a female victim, Halum, lying unresponsive in the front yard of a property. She’d got a gunshot wound to the torso. Halum was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The male juvenile was found to be the shooter in Halum’s death after an investigation. Detectives acquired a judicial warrant for the juvenile’s arrest based on information uncovered during this investigation. He was charged with murder in the second degree. He is now being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility.

Sheriff Mike Tregre expressed gratitude to everyone who provided information that led to this arrest.

“We received many tips from the youth in the community that helped our detectives with this case,” Sheriff Tregre said. “We deeply appreciate their cooperation.”
