Lake Charles, Louisiana - A dramatic incident unfolded in Lake Charles, Louisiana on August 30 when a routine investigation turned into a high-stakes chase, leaving a deputy injured and a suspect behind bars.

According to the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the scene of a car blocking the southbound lane near 6th Avenue and 3rd Street in Lake Charles around 7:00 p.m. Upon arrival, they found the vehicle unoccupied, but soon made contact with 18-year-old Sincere Z. Buckley, who was walking from a nearby residence.

Buckley, of Iowa, Louisiana, allegedly entered the driver's seat of the car and locked the door, refusing to cooperate with deputies. In an attempt to remove him, deputies opened the back door, sparking a brief struggle. The driver's door eventually opened, and Buckley turned the car on, dragging one of the deputies approximately 40 feet before fleeing the scene.

Deputies quickly set up a perimeter and began searching for Buckley. Later that evening, the Lake Charles Police Department received a call about the suspect hiding behind homes on 6th Street. When LCPD officers attempted to apprehend Buckley, he fled on foot but was quickly caught.

Buckley was taken into custody and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center on charges of obstructing a public passage, aggravated 2nd degree battery, and resisting a police officer with force or violence. Judge Tony Fazzio set his bond at $35,100.

The injured deputy was transported to a local hospital, where they were treated for a broken arm and abrasions sustained during the incident. CPSO Detective Julius Frazier is leading the investigation into the incident.

An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
