Fiery Crash in Louisiana Claims Life of Unknown Driver and Seriously Injures Passenger

Louisiana – Louisiana State Police reported on August 6, 2022, that on Friday, August 5, soon after 11:55 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 55 near LA Hwy 1048 in Tangipahoa Parish. An unidentified driver was killed in the incident.

According to the preliminary investigation, the incident occurred as a 2013 GMC Yukon was traveling south on Interstate 55. Under unknown circumstances, the GMC veered off the road to the right and collided with a tree. The GMC caught fire shortly after hitting the tree and was completely consumed.

The driver was properly restrained at the time of the incident, yet died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver was declared dead at the scene. The GMC passenger suffered major injuries, and the use of restraint is unknown at this moment. The passenger was sent to a nearby hospital. A toxicological sample was acquired from the driver for analysis as part of the continuing inquiry.

Troopers want to urge drivers to always make wise decisions when driving. Never drive impaired, fatigued, or distracted, obey all traffic laws, and make sure every occupant is securely restrained. While not all car accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
