Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Identifies Body and Recovers Vehicle in Tragic Discovery at Vinton, Louisiana Waterway

Vinton, Louisiana – The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office received a report on Tuesday, May 28th, around 8:45 a.m., about a possible body found floating in the water near Old Highway 90/Burnout Bridge in Vinton, Louisiana. CPSO Marine Division responded and successfully retrieved the body, which was later identified as Garrett Harrell, Jr., aged 33, from New Orleans, Louisiana.

After conducting a more extensive search, officers from the Marine Division managed to find a submerged vehicle using sonar in the same area where the body was found. The deputies successfully lifted a sunken Buick SUV on May 30, 2024, confirming it as the vehicle that Harrell was operating.

CPSO indicated that upon recovering the body, there were no apparent indications of foul play or physical injuries. The investigation is ongoing and the coroner will ultimately determine the cause of death.
