Calcasieu Parish Placed Under Mandatory Evacuation Order Due to Hurricane Delta
Published October 7, 2020
Calcasieu Parish was placed under a mandatory evacuation order starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
Calcasieu Parish is expecting possible tropical storm force or hurricane-force winds, along with 2″-4″ of rainfall, possibly up to 8″ of rainfall due to Hurrican Delta.
The area is expected to be put under a Hurricane Warning starting during the evening of Wednesday, October 7, 2020.
Anyone in the City of Lake Charles who is wanting to evacuate can use local bus stops to get a ride. Those outside of the City of Lake Charles or those who are unable to get to a city bus stop can call 211 for assistance.
People who are in homes damaged by Hurrican Laura are urged not to stay in their homes for Hurricane Delta.
Those that choose to stay, should be aware that first responders may not be able to respond during the storm. There may also be a delay in response after the storm.
If we see tropical storm conditions in Southwest Louisiana, be aware that debris from Hurricane Laura may cause damage to structures, utilities, and block roads.
Residents will not be stopped from coming back into the parish after the storm passes, however, debris is expected on area roadways. Residents are expected to be self-sufficient if they choose to come back to the area before the mandatory evacuation order is lifted.
The National Weather Service is expected to release an updated forecast Thursday, October 8, 2020.
