Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana – As Tropical Storm Francine approaches the Gulf Coast, officials in Calcasieu Parish are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents and minimize potential damage. The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury has issued an emergency declaration, and various government agencies, utility companies, and public services are preparing for the storm’s impact.

Calcasieu Parish Police Jury President Anthony Bartie issued an Emergency Declaration ahead of the storm, activating emergency plans and coordinating with the Executive Policy Group. Residents are advised to secure loose items in their yards, pick up debris, and clear storm drains to prevent blockages.

Several Government Offices and Public Facilities will be Announce Closures Ahead of Hurricane Francine

Several government offices and public facilities will be closed on Tuesday, September 10th, and Wednesday, September 11th, due to the severe weather forecast. The Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, and all Calcasieu Parish Public Library branches will be among those closed. Schools in Calcasieu Parish will also be closed for these days.

City Crews in Calcasieu Parish Working to Prepare Hurricane Francine

City crews are working to prepare for the storm, with the City of Lake Charles Streets and Drainage Division staging equipment, fueling up, and clearing storm drains. The City of Sulphur Public Works Department is inspecting and cleaning drainage structures throughout the city.

Westlake Police Chief Wilrye reminded citizens to take safety precautions and offered assistance to elderly or disabled residents who may need help preparing for the storm.

Utility Companies in Southwest Louisiana Prepare for Hurricane Francine

Utility companies are also gearing up for the storm’s impact. Entergy Louisiana has announced that its Louisiana storm team is prepared to work long hours to restore service to customers as quickly and safely as possible. Beauregard Electric CO-OP (BECi) is closely monitoring the storm’s path and preparing to respond quickly and safely to any outages that may occur. Cleco has secured 1,700 additional contractor resources to assist with potential outages.
