Congressman Clay Higgins’s Response:

I spend a lot of time in Southwest Louisiana and maintain a Congressional district office in Lake Charles. I am well aware of the traffic problems. When driving to meetings in the Lake Charles or Sulphur or Westlake area I have to allow for incredibly frustrating delays. However, issues like traffic congestion and municipal surface streets/infrastructure and detour routes and traffic control points and no-heavy truck zones are 100% controlled by local and state officials and law enforcement.

While I have no authority at the state level regarding local jurisdiction or state jurisdiction, I have had many meetings personally with LaDoTD as well as local and state officials over the past 15 months regarding the I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge and the overall needs for infrastructure improvements in the Lake Charles and Sulphur area. We aggressively support those endeavors and are moving closer to a final plan for a new bridge after decades of conflict and delay.

I work for We, the People. All of us should indeed communicate clearly with each other as well as with our elected and appointed officials. I encourage citizens that have been impacted by increased traffic congestion to contact both LaDoTD and Governor Edward’s office to share these concerns if you have not already done so.
