Lake Charles, Louisiana - A 35-year-old Lake Charles man was arrested following an alleged attempted kidnapping of a 15-year-old girl near Glenn Street and Hazel Street in Lake Charles, Louisiana, early Thursday morning. The incident occurred at approximately 6:38 a.m., when police were dispatched after receiving a report about a possible abduction attempt involving a teen on her way to school.
According to information from the Lake Charles Police Department, the victim reported that a white male driving a black SUV approached and asked if she needed a ride. After the victim refused, the suspect—identified later as Dustin Frederick—circled the area several times. On his final pass, officers said Frederick allegedly exited his vehicle, grabbed the girl, and tried to coerce her into his vehicle. Demonstrating quick thinking and bravery, the teen managed to escape after striking Frederick in the face, causing him to flee the scene in his vehicle.
Police said video evidence collected near the area helped the department's Detectives Division identify the suspect vehicle. This led to Frederick's apprehension during a traffic stop at Ernest Street and West College Street by the Lake Charles Police SWAT team. The arrest took place without incident, underscoring a prompt and coordinated police response to the threat.
Frederick faces one count of attempted kidnapping, with his bond set at $1,000,000 following an arrest warrant issued and signed by Judge Tony Fazzio. Detective Christian Arabie is leading the case. The police department urges anyone with information regarding the incident to call 337-491-1311 or leave an anonymous tip using the Lake Charles Police Department app.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
