39-Year-Old Louisiana Man Killed After Being Struck Twice in Morning Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash on US 171

Vernon Parish, Louisiana – A 39-year-old Louisiana man was killed after being struck twice in a morning vehicle-pedestrian crash on US 171.

Louisiana State Police (LSP) stated on March 4, 2023, that at around 5:00 a.m., LSP Troop E responded to a fatal crash on US Highway 171 south of Louisiana Highway 3226. Marvin Bolton Jr., 39, of Deridder, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.

According to the preliminary inquiry, Bolton Jr. was walking in the roadway when he was hit by a southbound automobile. During the initial collision, Bolton Jr. remained in the lane and was struck a second time by a southbound 2018 GMC pickup truck.

Bolton Jr. died as a result of the second crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Standard toxicological tests are being performed. The crash is still being investigated.

Pedestrians should always wear bright/light-colored clothing and reflective materials to make themselves visible to automobiles. Pedestrians should always walk on the sidewalk, but if one is not available, they should walk as close to the roadway edge as possible while facing traffic. For increased safety, pedestrians should carry a flashlight when walking at night.
