Westlake, Louisiana - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will implement nightly lane closures on Interstate 10 East in Westlake beginning Monday as part of the new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge project and ongoing highway improvements.
The right lane of I-10 East will be closed from Mile Marker 25.5 to Mile Marker 27 each night from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m., starting September 1, 2025, and continuing through Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Construction crews will use the overnight hours to complete the extension of an auxiliary lane from the eastbound PPG on-ramp while allowing construction crews adequate time to complete the necessary work. The project represents part of Louisiana's broader infrastructure improvement efforts aimed at enhancing traffic flow and safety along major interstate corridors.
The 1.5-mile construction zone spans a relatively short distance but affects a critical section of the interstate system. Drivers should expect potential delays and are advised to allow additional travel time when using this route during the specified closure hours.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has not announced whether the closure schedule might extend beyond September 4, pending the progress of construction activities. Weather conditions and unforeseen circumstances could potentially affect the planned timeline.
Motorists traveling through the area during construction hours should reduce speeds, maintain safe following distances, and remain alert for construction vehicles and workers near the travel lanes. The department emphasizes that work zone safety remains a priority for both construction personnel and the traveling public.
The auxiliary lane extension project is designed to improve traffic flow by providing additional space for vehicles to merge safely between the two major interchanges. Once completed, the extended lane should reduce congestion and enhance safety for drivers navigating between the PPG and US 90 access points.
