Lake Charles, Louisiana - A Cold Weather Advisory has been announced for Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas for the morning of Sunday, January 19, extending from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m., and again from 9:00 p.m. Sunday until noon on Monday. During these periods, temperatures and wind chills are expected to drop to 20°F or lower, which can pose health risks such as hypothermia with prolonged exposure. Residents are advised to dress in dry layers when venturing outdoors and to keep a source of warmth readily accessible.

In addition to the Cold Weather Advisory, a Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas from midnight Tuesday, January 21, until midnight Wednesday, January 22. This alert indicates the potential for significant snowfall and hazardous conditions that could impact travel and safety.

The forecast for Tuesday indicates total snow accumulations of 5 to 7 inches for areas north of Interstate 10, while regions from Interstate 10 to the coast can expect 3 to 5 inches. These predictions may vary as the event approaches, with localized variations in snow totals possible. The accumulation of snow could lead to increased weight on structures, trees, and power lines. Furthermore, strong winds accompanying the storm could bring down branches and power lines, leading to sporadic power outages.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution as road conditions may become slick and hazardous, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Vehicle travel could be significantly impeded, and individuals are advised to stay informed about changing conditions.
