Westlake, Louisiana – A domestic disturbance incident in Westlake, Louisiana, took a dramatic turn on Friday, July 26, 2024, when police officers responded to a call on Sikes Avenue at 12:45 pm. According to Westlake Police Chief Christopher Wilrye, the incident involved a 40-year-old male subject, identified as James Matthew Ledford, who allegedly pushed a four-month pregnant female victim to the ground and choked her.
Upon arrival, officers learned that Ledford had barricaded himself inside the house, prompting the involvement of the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office ACT team. A search warrant was obtained, and after multiple attempts to contact Ledford, he emerged from the house with his hands in the air. However, he refused to comply with the officers’ commands, leading to his eventual tasing and detention.
Ledford was transported to St. Patrick’s Hospital for evaluation, where he was admitted. He is currently facing charges of Domestic Abuse Battery (pregnant victim), Domestic Abuse Battery Strangulation, and Resisting an Officer. Further charges may be added as the investigation continues.
An arrest is an indication that probable cause exists to believe the subject was involved in the offense alleged. All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
