Westlake, Louisiana — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced a significant traffic change that could impact daily commutes and travel plans in Westlake. Beginning Thursday, May 15, 2025, the right lane of Interstate 10 Eastbound on the Calcasieu River Bridge in Westlake will be closed to all traffic until further notice.

DOTD officials state the closure is necessary for ongoing bridge maintenance, a routine but critical process to ensure the safety and reliability of one of Southwest Louisiana’s most vital transportation links. Maintenance activities on major infrastructure, such as the Calcasieu River Bridge, often include inspection, structural repairs, and preventative treatments to extend the lifespan of the bridge and safeguard the public.

While the exact duration of the closure remains uncertain, DOTD has committed to issuing updates as work progresses and when the lane is set to reopen.

The Calcasieu River Bridge is a critical connector for Lake Charles and surrounding communities. The I-10 corridor serves as a primary east-west route for both local commuters and interstate travelers, meaning maintenance projects can have a widespread effect on traffic patterns. DOTD recommends allowing extra time for travel and considering alternate routes.
