Westlake, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will temporarily close the Interstate 10 West on-ramp at Sampson Street in Westlake from 7 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025, to 5 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2025.

The 10-hour closure will allow crews to re-install a protective bridge warning structure on the access road, according to the state transportation department. The temporary access road connecting to the ramp from the South Service Road will also remain closed during the construction period.

Westbound travelers seeking to access Interstate 10 from the Sampson Street area will need to follow a detour route that crosses the Calcasieu River Bridge goin eastbound. The department has established detour signage to guide motorists through the alternative path.

The official detour directs drivers to use the Interstate 10 eastbound on-ramp instead of the closed westbound ramp. Motorists must then cross the Calcasieu River Bridge and exit at Lakeshore Drive. From there, drivers should loop to North Lakeshore Drive to access the Interstate 10 westbound on-ramp.

The bridge warning structure serves as a safety feature designed to protect vehicles from potential overhead hazards along the access road.

Westlake sits in Calcasieu Parish in southwestern Louisiana, where Interstate 10 serves as a major transportation corridor connecting the region to Houston and Lafayette. The Sampson Street interchange provides access to local businesses and residential areas in the community. This is part of the project to build a new I-10 Calcasieu River Bridge.

Drivers planning to travel through the area during the closure window should allow additional time for the detour route. The department recommends checking current traffic conditions before departing, as the detour may experience higher than normal traffic volume during the closure period.
