Westlake I-10 Off-Ramp Shoulder Closed Overnight for Barrier Placement: What Calcasieu Parish Drivers Need to Know

Westlake, Louisiana - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (LaDOTD) will close the shoulder of the Interstate 10 westbound off-ramp at Exit 27 in Westlake nightly from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Tuesday, August 5, through Thursday, August 7, 2025. This scheduled closure allows construction crews to set concrete barrier rails along the shoulder. The Exit 27 off-ramp will remain accessible to all traffic during this period.

This closure is part of ongoing efforts to address safety and infrastructure improvements on I-10, a crucial corridor for Westlake, Lake Charles, and the broader Calcasieu Parish area. Interstate 10 is a primary route with heavy daily traffic, and its infrastructure—including the nearby 70-year-old Calcasieu River Bridge—requires regular updates to meet modern transportation needs. The bridge and ramp system between Lake Charles and Westlake has long posed traffic and safety challenges due to its age and limited width, often resulting in congestion and incidents during peak hours.

Work will take place nightly, reducing daytime traffic impacts but requiring motorists to remain vigilant for flaggers, construction vehicles, and barrier placement activities. Drivers are encouraged to use real-time traffic maps and updates.

The ramp itself will remain open, minimizing inconvenience for Westlake residents and travelers passing through Calcasieu Parish. However, motorists should be cautious and prepared for shifted traffic patterns.
