Westlake, Louisiana - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has scheduled alternating closures of Interstate 10 eastbound and westbound at Exit 25 in Westlake from 8 p.m. Thursday, February 26, 2026, through 5 a.m. Friday, February 27, 2026.

According to the agency, the temporary closures are necessary to allow inspection of horizontal boring under the roadway. Horizontal boring is a construction method used to run pipes or conduits beneath a highway or other surface without digging an open trench across the road. Inspecting this work helps transportation officials check the condition and safety of the ground and utilities beneath the travel lanes.

The work is planned as an overnight operation to reduce the impact on daily traffic. However, drivers in Westlake and the surrounding Calcasieu Parish area who use I-10 for late-night or early-morning travel should expect delays and plan extra time.

Closure Pattern: 15 Minutes Closed, 30 Minutes Open

DOTD states that the I-10 closures at Exit 25 will occur in short, controlled intervals. Each closure will last up to 15 minutes, followed by a minimum 30-minute opening to allow traffic queues to clear.

Both eastbound and westbound travel will be affected in alternating fashion, meaning one direction may be held while the other is open, depending on the needs of the inspection. The pattern is designed to balance work access for crews with opportunities for drivers to move through the area regularly, rather than face one long shutdown.

The department also notes the schedule is weather permitting. Severe weather or unsafe conditions could alter or delay the operation, a common requirement for nighttime highway work.

What Drivers In Westlake And Calcasieu Parish Should Expect

During the 15-minute closure intervals, motorists should be prepared to stop and wait while crews complete inspection tasks below the roadway surface. Once the 30-minute opening begins, traffic will be allowed to pass so any backup can dissipate before the next closure.
