Westlake, Louisiana – A lane closure on I-10 Westbound in Westlake, Louisiana, is set to take place from Tuesday, November 5, to Thursday, November 7, 2024. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that the left travel lane and shoulder will be closed intermittently during this period.
The closure will occur within the left travel lane and shoulder in the area of the grassed buffer strip between I-10 Westbound and the Exit 26 ramp to PPG Drive and US 90 Westbound. While this may cause some inconvenience for drivers, PPG Drive will still be accessible via the intersection of US-90 Westbound, which can be reached through the right travel lane of the exit 26 ramp.
The closure is necessary to conduct geotechnical borings and cone penetration tests (CPTs). Geotechnical borings involve drilling into the ground to collect soil and rock samples, which are then analyzed to determine the ground’s stability and composition. CPTs, on the other hand, use a cone-shaped probe to measure the soil’s density and strength.
The data collected from these tests will help the DOTD assess the ground conditions and make informed decisions about future infrastructure projects in the area.
Drivers are advised to plan their routes accordingly and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
