Westlake, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced that drivers in Westlake should prepare for nightly alternating lane closures on LA 378, also known as Sampson Street, and Horseshoe Boulevard, beginning Monday, August 18, 2025, and continuing through Friday, August 29, 2025. Closures will take place from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., affecting the busy intersection at Sampson Street and Horseshoe Boulevard.
Flagging operations will be in effect at the intersection to help direct traffic flow and ensure safety for motorists and workers. These flaggers are responsible for signaling and guiding vehicles through the work area when lanes are restricted, reducing confusion and improving safety during nighttime construction.
This project is part of DOTD’s ongoing effort to improve infrastructure in Calcasieu Parish. Crews are scheduled to modify the existing concrete islands—structures designed to manage traffic movement at intersections—and install additional traffic signal equipment. These upgrades aim to improve intersection safety, enhance traffic management, and support future growth in the area.
Drivers should anticipate reduced speeds and possible delays when traveling through the work zone during the closure period. DOTD officials recommend planning alternate routes or allowing extra time for travel through the affected area. The nightly closures are scheduled to minimize disruptions to daytime traffic and local business operations.
