WESTLAKE, La. — Garfield Street in Westlake will close between St. John Bosco and Mulberry Street beginning Tuesday, March 10, 2026, as work continues on the Garfield Drainage Project, according to a notice from the City of Westlake.
The closure affects the section of Garfield Street running from St. John Bosco to Mulberry Street. City officials said the road closure is part of the ongoing drainage project in that area.
Drainage projects are public works efforts designed to improve how stormwater moves through a neighborhood or roadway. In many cases, that work can include underground infrastructure, ditch improvements, or other changes intended to reduce standing water and improve runoff during heavy rain.
The city’s notice did not provide a reopening date, detour information, or additional construction details. Motorists, nearby residents, and anyone traveling through the area may want to plan ahead and allow extra time once the closure begins.
Road closures connected to infrastructure work often affect daily traffic patterns, access to homes and businesses, and school or service routes. In this case, the City of Westlake identified the closure as a necessary step in the Garfield Drainage Project, which remains underway.
