Welsh Woman Killed in Vehicle-Pedestrian Crash

A woman from Welsh, LA was killed in a vehicle-pedestrian crash on the I-10 South Frontage Road near LA Hwy 26.

Jennings, Louisiana – Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop D responded to a vehicle-pedestrian crash on the I-10 South Frontage Road immediately west of LA Hwy 26 in Jefferson Davis Parish on November 6, 2021, shortly before 7:30 p.m. Katie Rae Mott, 36, of Welsh, was fatally injured.
Louisiana State Police reported that the incident happened as Mott was walking in the westbound lane of the frontage road, according to the initial inquiry. At the same time, a 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck driver driving west collided with Mott. Mott died as a result of her injuries in the incident and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries. Although no impairment on the part of the driver of the Ford is suspected, a toxicology sample was taken and sent for investigation. The cause of the accident is still being investigated.
Nearly seventy percent of pedestrian fatalities happen at night. Troopers advise pedestrians to be alert of their surroundings when walking near or on roadways.

Most pedestrian-related crashes might be avoided with simple precautions such as wearing reflective clothing, avoiding distractions, not walking too close to highways, and going against the flow of traffic.

Louisiana State Police Troop D reported that they have investigated 31 fatal crashes resulting in 32 deaths in 2021.
