Weekend Crash on I-55 Claims the Life of 30-Year-Old Louisiana Man

Louisiana - On October 23, 2022, Louisiana State Police confirmed that on October 22, soon before 9:45 p.m., Troopers from LSP Troop L began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on Interstate 55 at the US Highway 51 intersection in Tangipahoa Parish. Brandon Whittington, 30, of Hammond, Louisiana, died in the crash.

The incident happened as Whittington was driving southbound on Interstate 55 in a 2017 Mercedes C300, according to the preliminary investigation. The Mercedes went off the road for unknown reasons. After leaving the road, the Mercedes drove across a ditch before colliding with a tree.
Despite being securely restrained, Whittington died as a result of the crash. Whittington was pronounced dead at the scene. Impairment is unknown; however, a toxicological sample was acquired from Whittington for study. This accident is still being investigated.

Troopers would like to urge motorists to always make sound judgments when driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic rules. While not all accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
