VINTON, La. — The Vinton Police Department is warning drivers to stop cutting through a private lot in the Sabine Pointe Subdivision, saying motorists who continue to do so could face criminal trespass charges.

According to a public notice from the department, the issue centers on a private piece of property located at the corner of Sabinas Drive and Vincent Drive. The lot sits near a roadway behind the property, and drivers have reportedly been using it as an unofficial shortcut, turning the private land into a makeshift roadway.

The owner of the property has asked police to enforce Louisiana’s criminal trespass laws against anyone who drives across the lot without permission. In response, Vinton Police have put the community on notice that enforcement will be taking place.

The department stated that cameras are monitoring the area. The notice cautions that individuals who continue to drive through the property, despite the warning, “may be subject to being charged with criminal trespass.”

Criminal trespass generally refers to entering or remaining on someone else’s property without permission. In Louisiana, that can include walking, parking, or driving on private land when the owner has clearly indicated that entry is not allowed.

The message from law enforcement is direct: drivers should treat the lot as private property, not as a public roadway, and should plan to use established streets instead of cutting through.
