Vinton, Louisiana — Two individuals were arrested in Vinton after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of illegal drugs and a firearm, according to the Vinton Police Department. Officers seized multiple bags of suspected marijuana, a digital scale, and an AR-style rifle with a loaded magazine during the incident.

The individuals arrested have been identified as Jacolby Meaux and Christina Fontenot. Following the stop, both were charged with possession of a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance (CDS I) with intent to distribute, violation of a drug-free zone, and unlawful carrying of a weapon in the presence of a controlled substance. Additionally, Meaux faces a separate charge for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Chief Scott Spell of the Vinton Police Department commented on the arrest, “This arrest demonstrates how our officers’ vigilance on traffic stops directly improves public safety by taking dangerous drugs and weapons off the streets,” Spell said, “We remain committed to keeping Vinton a safe place for all our residents.”

The presence of a loaded magazine raised the seriousness of the charges, as Louisiana law increases penalties for possessing firearms while in possession of drugs.

The stop occurred within a designated drug-free zone. These zones, typically established around schools, parks, and other community areas, carry enhanced penalties for drug-related offenses to protect children and the public from exposure to illegal substances.

Both suspects were taken into custody without incident, and the case remains under investigation.
