Vinton, Louisiana – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced significant traffic changes on Interstate 10 in the coming days. Alternating lane closures will be in effect for both eastbound and westbound traffic starting February 4, 2025. These closures will occur from the Louisiana-Texas State Line to the Gum Gully Bridge at Mile Marker 5, near Vinton.

The lane closures are set to begin on Tuesday evening, February 4, at 7 p.m. and will last until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5. During this time, westbound traffic will be affected. Following this, eastbound lanes will also face similar disruptions from 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 5, until 6 a.m. on Thursday, February 6.

In addition to the lane closures, the Toomey Rest Area, located on I-10 eastbound at Mile Marker 1, will be closed during the period of eastbound lane work. Motorists are urged to plan their travel accordingly, as these closures are necessary for temporary striping and the movement of temporary concrete barriers.

Temporary striping refers to the application of paint or other materials on the road surface to designate lanes and ensure safety for drivers. The movement of concrete barriers is a common practice used to separate different lanes of traffic, especially in construction zones, thereby guiding vehicles safely through altered road conditions.

Drivers are encouraged to remain cautious and adhere to posted signage as they navigate these affected areas.
