Baton Rouge, Louisiana – On October 5, 2023, just after 3:15 p.m., the Louisiana State Police Troop A swiftly responded to an incident on Interstate 12 near O Neal Lane in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The incident involved a single vehicle collision with a pedestrian, tragically resulting in the death of Douglas Dupre, a 40-year-old resident of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Initial investigations indicate that a 2016 Chevrolet heavy-duty pickup truck was traveling east in the center lane of I-12 when Dupre unexpectedly entered the roadway and was struck by the vehicle. Unfortunately, Dupre sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck emerged unharmed from the crash.
LSP indicated that at present, it is unclear whether Dupre was impaired during the incident; therefore, a standard toxicology sample was collected for further analysis. Conversely, there are no suspicions of impairment on part of the Chevrolet driver who voluntarily provided a blood sample for testing purposes.
State Police said that it is essential to note that approximately 70 percent of pedestrian fatalities typically occur during nighttime hours. In light of this fact, they urge pedestrians to maintain heightened awareness while walking near roadways at all times. Simple precautions such as wearing reflective materials, avoiding distractions, maintaining distance from roadways, and walking against traffic flow could greatly reduce the occurrence of pedestrian-related accidents.
