Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced lane closures on US 165 in Calcasieu and Jefferson Davis parishes near Iowa, Louisiana. The left lanes of both northbound and southbound US Highway 165, at the intersection with Interstate 10, will be closed continuously from Monday, May 19, 2025, through Friday, May 23, 2025.

The lane closures will last 24 hours a day throughout the five-day period, affecting both directions of US 165. During this time, a 12-foot width restriction will also be enforced for all vehicles on US 165 northbound and southbound. This means larger commercial trucks and wide loads may need to plan alternate routes or adjust their schedules to stay in compliance with the temporary limits.

The closures are required for bridge removal work related to State Project H.002980, which involves the I-10 structure over US 165. According to DOTD officials, the project aims to improve safety and infrastructure reliability in the region. Bridge removal is a complex process that typically involves dismantling existing bridge sections, transporting debris, and preparing for potential future construction or upgrades.

Drivers traveling through the Iowa area should expect potential delays and are encouraged to plan ahead. DOTD recommends that all motorists exercise caution near the work zone. Crews will be present throughout the day and night, and changing traffic patterns can increase the risk of crashes if drivers are not attentive.

Reduced speed, increased following distance, and attention to construction signage are all simple steps that can help prevent incidents in work zones. For commercial drivers, understanding the width restriction is especially important to avoid violations or the need for last-minute detours.

The I-10 and US 165 interchange is a busy corridor for both local and through traffic, serving as a vital link for residents and businesses in Calcasieu Parish and beyond.
