Updated Hurricane Ida Data Through September 30 Released by Louisiana Insurance Commissioner
Louisiana – On November 3, 2022, Louisiana Department of Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon announced that insurers have paid or reserved to pay $13.9 billion on all types of Hurricane Ida-related claims in Louisiana through September 30.
This is the ultimate estimate of damage from Hurricane Ida, which hit the state as a Category 4 storm on August 29, 2021, and damaged areas in 25 parishes.
As of September 30, policyholders had filed 478,417 claims of various categories related to Hurricane Ida. Of those claims, 319,855, or 67%, were settled with payouts totaling $10.9 billion in hurricane-related damages.
“Policyholders who feel their claim has not been properly resolved by their insurer can call us at 800-259-5300 and file a complaint,” said Commissioner Donelon. “Policyholders need to know they have a right to file a supplemental claim if they find additional damage or if the increased cost of materials made the initial payment insufficient to cover the loss.”
The revised Ida data came from a data call made by the Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) to all approved property and liability insurers and surplus lines insurers to submit their Hurricane Ida claims data. The data include both personal and commercial insurance claims. The National Flood Insurance Program’s claims and payment data are not included because it is not controlled by the LDI.
The data call results provided today are the most complete look into insured losses in Louisiana as a result of Hurricane Ida so far. Hurricane Ida, Delta, Zeta, and Laura data are available by following this link. The information is also provided by parish.
