Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana - To address the issue of impaired driving in our region, Louisiana State Police Troop D intends to hold a sobriety and seat belt checkpoint on Friday, February 2, 2024. This operation will take place from 6:00 p.m. until 12:00 a.m., at a location in Calcasieu Parish that will remain undisclosed.

LSP said that the main objective is to identify and apprehend drivers who are under the influence before they can cause harm to themselves or others. During the checkpoint Louisiana State Police will also be inspecting vehicles to ensure that all occupants are properly restrained, aiming to decrease the number of seat belt-related fatalities in traffic crashes.

Drivers are advised to choose a responsible person who is not under the influence of alcohol to drive and also ensure they fasten their seat belts.

In order to inform authorities about drivers who are impaired, drivers are urged to call *LSP (*577) on their cell phone to reach the nearest Louisiana State Police troop location, or to dial 911 to get in touch with local law enforcement.

The Louisiana Highway Safety Commission provided support for this checkpoint.
