Unrestrained Texas Man Killed and Multiple Unrestrained Juveniles Injured in Louisiana Crash on LA 6

Sabine Parish, Louisiana – On September 25, 2022, at about 6:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop E responded to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 6 west of Many, Louisiana. Joseph Hogan, 21, of Hemphill, Texas, was killed in the crash.

The initial investigation found that Stacy Martone, 51, of Many, was driving a 2016 GMC Acadia westbound on Louisiana Highway 6. The Acadia crossed the centerlines into the eastbound travel lane for unknown reasons and struck head-on with a 2016 Cadillac CTS.

There were five people in the Cadillac. Unrestrained Hogan suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, a 4-year-old passenger, and a 6-year-old passenger, who were also unrestrained, suffered serious injuries and were sent to a nearby hospital. Another 2-year-old passenger, who was secured, had moderate injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital.

Martone, who was restrained, had minor injuries and was sent to a nearby hospital. Routine toxicological samples were collected and analyzed.
While the reason for this crash is still being investigated, distracted and inattentive driving remains a significant cause of accidents in our state. Louisiana State Police advises all motorists to drive cautiously. A failure in judgment can have fatal repercussions.

While not all accidents are avoidable, correct use of seat belts can significantly lower an occupant’s risk of death and injury. Making certain that all occupants are properly restrained can often mean the difference between life and death.

So far in 2022, Troop E Troopers have investigated 37 fatal crashes, resulting in 39 fatalities.
