Unrestrained Passenger Killed in Single-Vehicle Crash on LA 113 After Vehicle Collides With Tree and Catches Fire

Louisiana – Troopers from LSP Troop D responded to a single-vehicle fatal incident on LA Hwy 113 near LA Hwy 394 in Beauregard Parish on August 12, 2022, at approximately 4:15 p.m. The passenger, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was killed in the crash.

According to preliminary findings, the driver of a 2008 Chrysler Sebring was going south on LA 113. The Chrysler went off the road to the right for unknown reasons and collided with a tree. As a result of the collision, the Chrysler was engulfed in flames.

The unrestrained front seat passenger suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered significant injuries and was sent by air ambulance to a hospital in the Alexandria area for treatment. Due to the level of the Chrysler’s damages, the driver’s use of a seat belt is uncertain.

A toxicological sample was acquired from the driver and will be analyzed. This crash is still being investigated.

Louisiana State Troopers would like to remind motorists that, while not all incidents are survivable, statistics suggest that when properly restrained, the odds of surviving a crash increase dramatically. Please keep in mind that many car accidents are avoidable. Making sound driving decisions and following all traffic laws can often mean the difference between life and death.

So far in 2022, Troop D investigated 14 fatal crashes that resulted in 16 deaths.
