Unrestrained Occupant Killed in Early Morning Crash in Louisiana on LA 77
Louisiana - On October 30, 2022, Louisiana State Police reported that on October 29, 2022, shortly before 12:00 a.m., Troopers of LSP Troop A began investigating a single-vehicle fatal crash on LA 77 at Wheelock Lane in Iberville Parish, Louisiana. Courtney Terrel Davis, 44, of New Orleans, Louisiana, was killed in the crash.
The preliminary investigation found that a 2008 GMC truck was going north on LA 77. The motorist failed to handle a left-hand curve, raced off the road to the right, and overturned for unknown reasons. Davis was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle.
Davis was killed in the crash and was pronounced dead at the site. The second person of the GMC was also unrestrained, but only suffered minor injuries. Toxicology samples were collected from Davis for processing as part of the continuing investigation. Troopers are still looking into who was driving at the time of the incident.
While not all incidents are avoidable, statistics show that correctly fitted restraints can greatly minimize your risk of being injured or killed in a crash. Every person in a vehicle, regardless of sitting position, is required by law to wear a seat belt at all times. Wearing your seat belt properly is one of the most effective strategies to save your life and limit injuries in a crash.
