St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana – A fatal single-vehicle crash on LA 625, also known as Florissant Highway, claimed the life of a 46-year-old man Monday evening in St. Bernard Parish.

Louisiana State Police Troopers responded to the scene shortly after 6:30 p.m. on November 3, 2025, where they found 46-year-old Arturo Castro-Hernandez of Mexico deceased.

According to the preliminary investigation, Castro-Hernandez was driving a 2003 Honda Accord eastbound on LA 625 when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle veered left across the opposing lane of travel. The Honda continued off the roadway before striking a culvert, a drainage structure that allows water to flow under roads.

Castro-Hernandez was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was partially ejected from the vehicle during the impact. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators have not yet determined whether impairment played a role in the crash. State Police collected standard toxicology samples from the victim and submitted them for laboratory analysis, a routine procedure in fatal crashes.

The crash remains under investigation as authorities work to determine what caused Castro-Hernandez to lose control of the Honda Accord. Troopers continue to gather evidence and examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Louisiana State Police remind motorists that wearing a seatbelt is one of the most effective ways to prevent serious injury or death in vehicle crashes. While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that proper restraint use significantly increases the chances of survival.

The investigation is ongoing, and State Police have not released additional information at this time.
