Unrestrained Louisiana Woman Killed, Unrestrained Juvenile Passenger Seriously Injured in Crash on LA 10

Louisiana – On October 4, 2022, Louisiana State Police confirmed that shortly after 1:45 p.m., Troopers from LSP L began investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash on LA Hwy 10 at the intersection of LA Hwy 1061 in Tangipahoa Parish. Krystina Stewart, 35, of Kentwood, Louisiana, died in the crash.

The initial investigation found that Stewart was driving a 2021 Chevrolet Malibu that was stopped at a stop sign on LA Hwy 1061 northbound near the intersection with LA Hwy 10. At the same time, an eastbound 1998 Freightliner semi-trailer truck was on LA Hwy 10. The driver of the Chevrolet entered the eastbound lane of LA Hwy 10 directly into the path of the Freightliner for unknown reasons. The Freightliner collided with the Chevrolet on the left side.

Stewart was unrestrained at the time of the accident and died as a result of their injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the Chevrolet was also unrestrained and suffered significant injuries. The juvenile passenger was sent to a nearby hospital. The Freightliner driver was properly restrained and did not sustain any injuries. Toxicology samples were collected from both drivers for processing as part of the continuing inquiry. This accident is still being investigated.

Troopers would like to urge motorists to follow all posted traffic control signs and to be aware of vehicles approaching junctions from all directions. Also, please make sure you are always making sound decisions while driving. Never drive while inebriated, fatigued, or distracted, and always obey all traffic rules. While not all auto accidents are avoidable, simple precautions like these can frequently mean the difference between life and death.
